H-1B Cap Reached
The CIS announced today that it had accepted more petitions than the available 65,000 H-1B numbers. See attached Adobe CIS press release. The CIS was apparently overwhelmed by a reported 200,000 filings. The agency will conduct a random "lottery" for the 65,000 numbers. The reports were that FedEx, DHL, UPS and USPS came with fully-loaded 18 wheelers to the service centers in St. Albans and Laguna Niguel.
The CIS may take weeks to process the filings and conduct the lottery.
There has been no announcement regarding the situation for US advanced degree cases, which represents an extra 20,000 numbers.
